Reserve Division Table
Report (taken from the match day programme - 13th
September 2003)
- The Northern Counties East
league Division Two got under way last Saturday with
Ossett Albion Reserves entertaining Goole Reserves who
are newcomers to the division this time. The final
scoreline was a 1-1 draw but that somewhat flattered
Albion who would certainly have come away pointless had
Goole been able to convert a higher percentage of the
numerous chances they created.
- Right from the start Goole
Looked the more coherent team and the fact that their
players have been together for quite some while was
immediately apparent. The visitors knocked the ball about
in good style but in front of goal, fortunately for
albion, they were sadly lacking with their final delivery
poor and their shooting qualities even worse.
- In the first half Goole had
most of the attacking ideas and but for some tidy
goalkeeping from young Thomas Jones, they could have had
the game wrapped up by the interval. Twice they were
thwarted by the woodwork as shots rained in on the Albion
goal.
- It was completely against
the run of play therefore when Albion stole the lead with
barely seconds to go to the half time whistle. Good work
by Lee Bradleygot Kelvin Ryan into an advanced position
and when he saw the Goole goalkeeper coming off his line
to challenge the neatest of lobs just dipped under the
crossbar to give Albion an unexpected interval lead.
- Albion started the second
half in more positive mood but they were unable to
sustain their improvement and with around fifteen minutes
of the game left Goole got the reward their enterprise
deserved. Jones again had to make a couple of brave and
telling stops but eventually even he was beaten when a
croos-cum-shot deceived everyone and found its way into
the far corner of the Albion net.
- Albion will have to improve
on this performance if they are to get anything from
Saturday's meeting with Garforth Town at Garforth.
